Changes due to COVID-19

The Australian Dental Association (ADA) has produced a template of recommended restrictions that should be adhered to minimize transmission of COVID-19, including reducing aerosols in the dental practice setting. We have implemented these restrictions and you may notice some changes to the way we work. This has been done to ensure the continued safety of the patients and staff of Connolly Dental Surgery.

In particular you will notice the following:

1)   The booking process has changed and bookings by phone are preferred so we can ask more questions including:

    1. Your medical history and personal risk factors.
    2. Your recent travel history.
    3. Your contact history with any confirmed or suspected COVID-19 cases.
  • Where you have booked online you may find a follow-up phone call is made to ensure risk for yourself and staff remains low.
  • We encourage our patients to attend appointments alone where ever possible and keep accompanying persons to a minimum.

2)   Your risk before procedures can be limited by:

    1. We will ensure that infection control procedures are carried through to the waiting areas, wiping down high touch surfaces and we have removed magazines/books/ toothpaste samples.
    2. You will be asked to use clean your hands when you first arrive at the practice with either hand sanitizer or hand washing.
    3. You will be given a mouth-rinse prior to your procedure.
    4. Access to tele-dentistry when needed to aid in determining cases that may not need to attend the clinic.
    5. Our staff have all thorough infection control training and have the current flu immunization.
    6. Where-ever possible we ask you to use the bathroom at home prior to your visit.

3)   During your procedure:

    1. A rubber dam will be used for fillings.
    2. There may be some limitations to your treatment options.
    3. Your scale and clean will be deferred to a later date.
    4. A specialist may be required for some extractions.
    5. Complex treatment such as crowns or implants will have to be deferred.

4)    After your procedure:

    1. We encourage our patients to follow up with necessary treatment and we will endeavour to recall all deferred treatment as the restrictions relax.
    2. If you become unwell or do contract COVID-19 in the 14-days following your visit please contact us immediately.

We hope that you appreciate these efforts are for everyone’s continued safety and can cooperate with us to stop the spread of COVID-19

About Us

Practice Founder: Dr Keith Stewart

Dr Keith Stewart graduated from the UNSW in 1981. He began practicing in the northern suburbs and founded the Connolly practice in the late 1980's. Keith was a kind and gentle man. He was known for his quiet nature and his "if it isn't broken, don't fix it" attitude and offered no-frills dentistry that lasted and could still be beautiful. He semi-retired in the last few years of his life and spent much of his time on his hobby farm in Mooliabeenee, where he enjoyed woodworking and his orchard. Keith passed away very suddenly in February 2016. He was much loved and will be missed.
